FillingI show the lad how to use a filling knife and set him off filling the screw holes. He gets more on the floor but still he got the job done. Mean while I spot a flaw in the design, It can't be a car without wing mirrors. Wing MirrorA couple of scrap bits of ply and dowel rods do the trick. They need to come off so they can go through doors, so I drill holes just large enough to grip the dowel.

The bike lights we brought as head lights have there switch on the back. There also slightly tapered, so I thought the best way to mount them would be a hole in the same shape, they wedge into. Lights on carI use a jigsaw to cut the holes. I don't think they look to bad once on.

Primer onWe are finally ready for paint. We set a sheet up on the floor and lay out all the different pieces. I give the boy some latex gloves which are far to big but, stop the paint getting on to his hands. We both sit and prime the lot.

The last piece to be made is the number plate. Instead of just using a printed sheet stuck on a board, I think the boy might have more fun if he had to cut and glue. So I print out some numbers and letters, cut some card to size and head home where he can sit at the table, cut around and glue onto the card. The lad tells me that cars have one Cuttings letters outyellow number plate and one white one and colours one of his with a yellow crayon. Once dry I run them through a laminator and mount them to some 6mm MDF.Number plate

Im used to primer drying in 2 hours and hoped to get colour on tonight, the primer is still drip wet so I leave it over night.

Continue to day 7.......
